GP's

NPT and NHS Bristol initially embarked upon a development partnership, to pioneer the use of live patient feedback supported by up to the minute technology, to improve primary care services in Bristol.

Much of the health care our communities experience is in the primary care environment and it is therefore a sector with great potential for using real time patient feedback to improve service delivery. Patient experience is one of the three key aspects of quality required by the NHS Next Stage Review: High Care Quality for All and with the introduction of Liberating the NHS and the requirement for CQC registration by 2012; patient experience continues to be a priority as part of patient-centred care that ensures "No decision about me, without me"

So far, the only real benchmark of primary care patient experience is the national GP Patient Survey. Although this provides some very useful information, it also has limitations in its reach to many patient groups. For Bristol GPs, with their ethnically and socially diverse community, there was a clear need to develop a process for gathering local insight that would be more flexible, responsive and provide an opportunity for people who were not being properly heard. NPT has become the voice for those patients and their families.
